Todd Gilliland has already matched Joey Logano. Now the 15-year-old will look to make some history Saturday evening as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West kicks off the season with the Toyota/NAPA Auto Parts 150 at California’s Irwindale Speedway. Gilliland has won his first two NASCAR K&N Pro Series starts — the West finale at Phoenix last November and the K&N Pro East opener at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway in February. The last driver to win his first two series races: Logano in 2007. Gilliland will face plenty of competition, however, in making it three straight, starting with his Bill McAnally Racing teammate and defending champion Chris Eggleston. Eggleston is also the defending race winner, leading 102 laps en route to Victory Lane last year. Jefferson Pitts Racing teammates Noah Gragson and Gracin Raz, as well as Bruncati Racing’s Ryan Partridge were all in the title hunt down to the closing laps of last year and are all back for 2016. They’ll join notable newcomers including BMR’s Julia Landauer and Partridge’s new teammate Cole Rouse.
